EU weighs curbs on Chinese hybrid car imports

PressEuropa genel haber görseli

The European Union is preparing possible safeguard measures that could limit imports of Chinese-made hybrid vehicles, as Brussels seeks to address growing trade imbalances and protect the bloc’s automotive industry.

The European Commission is examining restrictions after sales of Chinese-made hybrids increased rapidly across the European market. The development comes after the EU imposed tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles.

France and Germany have also submitted a joint proposal to the Commission calling for a new legal instrument to address broader economic risks and trade imbalances with China.

The issue is expected to feature in upcoming EU discussions on competitiveness and relations with China. Commissioner Maros Sefcovic is due to hold further trade and investment consultations in Beijing this week.
