European Union member states’ ambassadors have approved 1,646 new sanctions listings targeting individuals and entities linked to Russia’s military-industrial network, diplomats said.
Most of the new listings focus on companies and organizations involved in the production of ballistic missiles and other military equipment. The measures also cover manufacturers of drones, rocket engines and solid fuel, as well as shipyards connected to Russia’s defence sector.
The package includes 77 Russian politicians who took part in parliamentary elections held in Ukrainian territories occupied by Russia. The formal adoption of the measures is expected at a meeting of EU foreign ministers.
The new listings come as Russia has intensified missile and drone attacks against Ukraine. EU governments have also been concerned about Moscow’s growing use of military-industrial links with partners outside Europe.
The latest measures are part of the EU’s broader sanctions regime aimed at restricting Russia’s ability to finance and sustain its war effort. Their implementation will depend on the formal approval of the member states’ foreign ministers.
