Proposed Trump-Putin-Xi meeting

Russian President Vladimir Putin has reportedly proposed a November meeting with US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping to discuss the war in Ukraine. The Kremlin has confirmed preliminary discussions, but no final arrangements have been announced.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has proposed a meeting with US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping to discuss the war in Ukraine, the Wall Street Journal reported on Monday.

The proposal reportedly emerged from a telephone conversation between Putin and Trump on October 9. The call was also followed by arrangements concerning Russian diesel supplies to the United States and a US decision to waive certain Russia-related sanctions.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has confirmed that preliminary discussions about a possible meeting have taken place. The reported proposal envisages holding the talks on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Shenzhen, China, scheduled for November 18–19.

However, the scope of a potential meeting remains unclear. Trump has not committed to attending, and no detailed public response has been issued by the White House or Chinese officials.

Any meeting would take place amid continuing disagreements over the war in Ukraine, Western sanctions against Russia and the future of international efforts to secure a settlement.
