Berlin Protest: Nine Activists Glue Themselves to Road Outside Rheinmetall Facility

BERLIN – Several protesters glued themselves to the road outside the Berlin premises of German defence manufacturer Rheinmetall on Tuesday morning, October 20. The demonstration was held to oppose German arms deliveries to Israel.

Police were alerted at around 5:30 a.m., according to a police spokesperson. Of the 11 protesters at the scene, nine had glued themselves to the roadway. Around 90 police officers were deployed at the site at one point to clear the road and remove the demonstrators.

Protest Against Arms Deliveries to Israel

The protest was called by the group “Peacefully Against Genocide.” The activists said their action was intended to oppose weapons deliveries from Germany to the Israeli military.

According to the group, similar demonstrations took place at other defence industry sites in several German states. More than 70 people reportedly took part in the actions nationwide.

Police are investigating suspected coercion and the alleged use of symbols associated with unconstitutional organizations in connection with statements made during the protest.

Repeated Protests at Berlin Facility

Rheinmetall began defence production this summer at the former Pierburg automotive supplier site in Berlin. The facility has since become the target of repeated protests. Climate activist Greta Thunberg has also taken part in previous demonstrations.

The latest action comes amid ongoing debate over German arms exports and the role of the defence industry in the context of the conflict in the Middle East.
