A Russian-guided bomb struck near public buses carrying passengers in the eastern Ukrainian city of Kramatorsk on October 8, killing at least 33 people and injuring 18, according to Ukrainian authorities cited by the Associated Press and other news organisations.

The strike hit a street where two passenger buses were operating in the Donetsk region. The attack sparked fires and prompted local authorities to suspend public transport in Kramatorsk and nearby Sloviansk. Rescue and identification efforts continued as officials warned that the human toll could change.

Ukrainian authorities also reported Russian attacks on energy infrastructure that worsened power outages in Kyiv. The strikes come as Ukraine prepares for colder weather and faces continued pressure on its electricity system.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy renewed calls for additional air-defence support from Western partners. Britain also announced further sanctions against Russia during a visit to Ukraine, as Kyiv seeks to increase pressure on Moscow and protect civilian infrastructure.

The attacks underline the continuing risks to civilians far from the immediate front line and the vulnerability of public services and energy infrastructure as the war continues.
