Poland’s foreign minister, Radosław Sikorski, has called for a swift ceasefire in the Black Sea to allow grain shipments from Ukraine and Russia to move safely, putting food security on the agenda at the G20 foreign ministers’ meeting in Atlanta.
Sikorski said Ukraine must be included in any effort to end Russia’s war and argued that Europe should have a role in the process. He also said Russia should not resume energy sales to Europe before the conflict reaches a fair conclusion, according to Reuters’ account of his remarks.
The meeting also sharpened debate over Poland’s place in global economic diplomacy. Washington has backed a proposal to make Poland a full G20 member, while Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov objected to Poland’s invitation to the gathering. Any expansion would require consensus among G20 members.
