Lufthansa Group has suspended flights to Riyadh until October 16, citing developments in the Middle East, as airlines respond to security concerns following explosions reported in Saudi Arabia’s capital.
More than 275 flights were cancelled at King Khalid International Airport on Thursday, according to flight-tracking data cited by The Associated Press. The cancellations represented around 40% of scheduled arrivals and 30% of departures.
Flight-tracking service Flightradar24 reported that the airport had temporarily halted operations. Lufthansa said its suspension was prompted by the current regional situation. Other airlines, including Air India and Indian low-cost carriers, also suspended or cancelled services to Riyadh.
Yemen’s Houthi movement claimed responsibility for missile attacks targeting airports in Riyadh and Najran. Those claims had not been independently confirmed by Saudi authorities at the time of reporting.
Passengers travelling to or from Riyadh should check directly with their airline for the latest flight status and rebooking information. Further changes remain possible as airlines assess the security situation.
