Germany’s annual inflation rate rose to 3.3% in September, with a sharp increase in energy prices putting renewed pressure on consumer prices.
Preliminary figures from the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) showed that consumer prices increased 3.3% from September 2025. The rate was 2.9% in August.
Consumer prices rose 0.6% compared with the previous month. Core inflation, excluding food and energy, stood at 2.4% in September.
Energy prices were a major driver of the acceleration. Energy products were 14.9% more expensive than a year earlier, compared with an annual increase of 10.5% in August and 8.3% in July.
Destatis said the September figures are preliminary and based on results available so far. Final consumer price data will be published at a later date.
