Poland’s Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski has called for a rapid ceasefire in the Black Sea to restore safe passage for grain shipments from both Ukraine and Russia, saying the disruption threatens countries that rely on imported food.
Speaking at the G20 foreign ministers’ meeting in Atlanta on Friday, Sikorski said Ukraine must be included in any effort to end Russia’s war and argued that European countries should have a role in the process. He also said Russia should not resume energy sales to Europe before the conflict ends fairly, Reuters reported.
The appeal comes as commercial shipping in the Black Sea remains exposed to attacks and drone incidents. Türkiye has warned both Moscow and Kyiv against further strikes on civilian vessels and has been discussing measures to protect shipping and grain exports with regional partners.
Safe grain routes are important well beyond Europe: interruptions to exports from the region can add pressure to food markets and import costs in countries already vulnerable to price shocks. Sikorski said the need to secure supplies for people in the Global South made swift action especially important.
