German Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced a new package of support for Ukraine worth a total of 1.35 billion euros during his visit to Kyiv.
One billion euros of the package is earmarked for military assistance. A further 350 million euros will be used to repair and rebuild Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
Merz arrived in Kyiv on Sunday for talks with the Ukrainian leadership. The discussions also focused on closer cooperation in drone production and the joint development of long-range weapons.
Germany and Ukraine agreed to deepen industrial cooperation on interceptor drones. The aim is to strengthen Ukraine’s ability to defend itself against Russian drone attacks more quickly.
Merz reaffirmed Germany’s support for Ukraine and stressed the importance of Ukrainian security for Europe. His visit comes amid intensified Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities and infrastructure.
